ONLINE SAFETY AND
CYBER SECURITY
We take your online safety seriously. Helping to protect our customers from scams, fraud and other online threats is important to us.
That's why we're continually investing in security measures designed to help keep your account and personal information secure. We're working behind the scenes to strengthen account protection and invest in scam prevention initiatives, to make staying safe online a little easier.
While we're focused on strengthening security, there are also simple steps you can take to help safeguard your personal information, secure your devices and create a safer online experience for you and your family.

Some of the ways we help protect your account:
We don't store full credit
or debit card details
Instead, we use a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS)-compliant payment gateway to process online transactions. Sensitive payment information is encrypted during the payment process to help keep your card details safe and secure.
We verify
your Identity
When you reach out to our Customer Support team, we'll take you through our account verification process to confirm your identity and help protect your account from unauthorised access.
To help prevent fraud and identity theft, we also perform identity checks when customers sign-up for a mobile service, in line with legislative requirements (you can read more about that here).
Our team are trained
to recognise scams
Our Customer Support teams receive regular training to help identify potential scams and keep up with emerging cyber security threats.
Online safety
support
If you've experienced cyberbullying, online abuse, or come across offensive or illegal content online, support is available. We recommend reporting it to the eSafety Commissioner or directly to the website or app hosting the content.
You can find links to the eSafety Commissioner's reporting tools, content filtering resources and other helpful information in the 'Additional Resources' section below.
Ways to protect yourself online
Set up multi-factor
Authentication (MFA)
MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring more than one method to verify your identity when logging in. While a password can be compromised, it's much harder for someone to access your account if they also need a second verification step.
Be sceptical of random
emails and text messages
Don't engage with unexpected text messages, emails, direct messages or phone calls, especially if you're being asked to click a link, provide personal information or download any files. To help you identify genuine text messages from us, we have a registered SMS Sender ID. This means branded SMS messages from Tangerine will appear as "TANGERINE".
Use strong, unique passwords
for each account
We know remembering lots of passwords isn't always easy, but using the same password across multiple accounts can increase your risk if one account is compromised. Using a unique password for each account, or a password manager to keep track of them, can help keep your information secure.
Avoid using public
Wi-Fi networks
While accessing free public Wi-Fi may be convenient, it can also increase the risk of your personal information being intercepted. Where possible, use a trusted Wi-Fi network, a mobile hotspot or a virtual private network (VPN) to help keep your information secure.
Safe online habits
for kids
The internet offers plenty of opportunities to learn, connect and be entertained, but not all content is suitable for children. Taking an active interest in your child's online activity and having regular conversations about online safety can help them navigate the digital world more confidently. For additional resources and advice on keeping children safe online, visit the eSafety Commissioner, Kids Helpline or the Australian Cyber Security Centre.
Set up content filters
Content filters can help create a safer online experience by restricting access to inappropriate content. Many devices have built-in parental controls, otherwise they're available through third-party providers. For more information, you can visit the Communications Alliance Family Friendly Filter Program.
In addition, if you've purchased an eero Wi-Fi router from Tangerine, you'll also have access to its built-in content filtering features.
